How do working moms manage in London after their child’s school hours?

I see most of the london schools work till 3 to 3:30 PM. Where do the children go after that? Do the schools have day care till the mom comes back? How can the child (let’s say 5 yr old) manage by himself? I heard there are no school buses for most of these schools. How does it all work then?
